Not too long ago, my mother and I were talking about food and diets. “Your grandmother used to feed you pasta five nights a week, ” my mother insisted.
“She did not!” I exclaimed, stung. After all, I remembered my grandmother as a wonderfully varied cook who could make anything taste wonderful. She served all sorts of meals, not just pasta! There was spaghetti, of course - she was Italian, after all. But she also made Ziti with vegetables. And Linguine. And tuna casserole with. ..elbow macaroni. By the time I’d finished naming off a typical week’s worth of menus, I had to concede my mother’s point - but I made mine as well. “But… it didn’t FEEL like we were eating pasta every night!”

You are reading this article probably for one of two reasons.
1. You want a weight loss program that works
2. You are a serial dieter, because you can never lose weight and then keep it off.In fact you seem to end up heavier and more depressed than before
Possibly a third reason would be that you have become very cynical about all the new diets promoted by the ’stars’ of television and the movies!!
Perhaps like me, you just see it as a means for fading stars making money by endorsements.

Whatever diet you choose to live by, the food you eat has to provide your body with the nourishment to properly balance your body’s chemistry. If you have health challenges, are overweight or obese, chances are you are not in balance at all. The typical North American diet is woefully out of balance. Even what are commonly considered as healthy diets, such as low fat, vegetarian and vegan diets can be improperly balanced.
The good news is you can forget counting… cholesterol, calories, fat grams, carbohydrates, etc, if you eat a properly balanced diet. But, just what does a properly balanced diet consist of?
At this time, it is important to remember a quick lesson in chemistry. Many people know about acids. We used to often hear about acid rain and almost everyone knows that acids are dangerous. The opposite of acids are bases, or alkaloids. These alkaline substances will neutralize acids. In fact, if you mix an acid and a base of equal strength, you will get a new liquid that is close to being neutral. The way of measuring how acidic or alkaline a substance is a scale called pH. Healthy eating means many things to many people, and everyone has different goals for the perfect diet. The key to following a healthy diet is to find a diet you can stick with for the rest of your life. A diet should not be simply a temporary change in the way you life, eat and exercise. Rather, it should be a permanent change that you can live with day in and day out, year in and year out.
For some people, a healthy diet can be as simple as increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables in the daily diet. For others, a radical change, involving strict control of fat and cholesterol, may be required.

At a minimum, walk a mile or more several times a week (or daily) and move the arms and wrists around to loosen up the joints.
If you can’t walk or ride a stationary bicycle, use a rowing machine, swim, or join wheel chair races. My paddle-wheel stationary bike uses arms as well as legs, and the resistance by air goes exponentially with RPM.
If you can do none of these things, you have my sympathy.
I had a young colleague who suffered from polio in child-hood, so one leg was short and supported by a built-up shoe. One day, this person was absent from the office, because a lung had collapsed. He should at least have worked up his pulse rate and breathing on a rowing machine, several times per week. Read the rest of this entry »

They have the endorsements by medical and scientific “experts”. They have the pictures before and after. And they have no end of guarantees, free gifts and other offers.
But when you look a bit deeper into the background of these diet products, you find very little of substance. With just a little research online you will see that you can find nothing posted from any believable source about the product or the experts depicted so glowingly.
And you often see offer after offer sent by the same company using the same return address.
